Clean Up Hillsborough River with Us

Making a difference one river clean-up at a time

Last April, our community gathered for the very first Hispanics for our Environment Hillsborough River Clean-Up event. The outcome was beyond our expectations. 42 Volunteers from all walks of life paddled alongside one another to collect debris out of the river. We were joined by Mayor Jane Castor, Bay News 9, Univision and Telemundo, as well as TECO’s HOLA team.  Together, we extracted approximately 1,500 pounds of debris both in the water and along the shore.

From plastic bottles to stray fishing gear, our efforts revealed the extent of the challenges our waterways face. There is definitely more work to be done! Building on the success of our inaugural clean-up this past April, we’re excited to dive back in on September 16 for another day of action that will leave a lasting impact on our local waterways. Our second Hillsborough River Clean-Up promises to be even more impactful – focusing on the Reed Park area of the Hillsborough River. But we can’t do it alone – we need you!

Why should you join us?

1. Make a tangible difference for our local ecosystems

Every piece of litter removed from the river is a step toward restoring its natural balance. By joining us, you’ll directly contribute to the well-being of our local ecosystem and the species that call it home.

2. Foster a Connection with nature

Kayak fishing is not just a sport; it’s a way to connect with the outdoors on a profound level. As we paddle together to clean up Hillsborough River, you’ll get to experience the thrill of kayaking while making a positive impact on our environment.

3. Community Bonding

Our events are more than clean-ups; they’re opportunities to connect with fellow enthusiasts who share your passion for kayaking, fishing and environmental stewardship. Now’s your chance to connect with a community that not only enjoys the outdoors, but makes an efforts to improve Tampa Bay waterways as well.

4. Educational Experience

Engaging with the waterways firsthand provides insights into the challenges they face and the solutions that can drive change. When children and teens experience beach and river clean-ups, we’re fostering a new generation of environmental stewards while taking a step to ensure these ecosystems can continue to grow and thrive in the future.

How To Get Involved with our Hillsborough River Clean-Ups

Registering for the Hillsborough River Clean-Up is easy! Whether you’re a seasoned angler or a newcomer to kayaking, your presence matters. Volunteers can either help on the water or along the shore. TBKA will only provide a limited amount of kayaks, so please bring your own if you are able (and indicate it on your registration form).By registering early, you’ll help us organize logistics more efficiently and ensure a seamless experience for everyone involved.

Seize this opportunity to contribute to a cleaner, healthier future for our waterways and our communities. Join us on September 16 for a day of paddling, purpose, and pride as we clean up Hillsborough River.
